Melbourne Pick up Liam Jurrah in Pre-season Draft

Melbourne has drafted 20 year old Northern Australian Liam Jurrah. The kid from the middle of nowhere in the Northern Territory will be on the Demons list for 2009. The ruckman forward is not new to city life in Melbourne though, he has played down south for Collingwood’s VFL side previously. In the three games he played for them, he played as a Half Forward Flanker and looked really promising.

Liam Jurrah was expected to go to North Melbourne originally as he had trained with them and done some testing too.

Jurrah is know for his good leap and can play both in the ruck and as a tall forward. Liam also doesn’t have a big mass making him quite mobile and agile allowing him able to out run his opponents or beat them with height and leap.

The 196cm forward from Yuendumu has played an influential role in his Nightclif team this year. His good performances up north have brought him in to the collective consciousness of AFL recruiters.

Melbourne seems to have drafted him to compliment Jack Watts, the Dee’s number 1 pick in the NAB AFL draft earlier this year. His height which is akin to Watts could form a twin towers situation in the forward line, like that at Hawthorn with Buddy Franklin and Jarryd Roughead. Another possible strategy behind drafting him is because of his proven performance and lack of height gained so far in the draft.

I'm fiercely logical, opinionated and don't care too much for backlash. Luckily, I'm always right. Did I mention that I'm arrogant? I also support Melbourne; the most illogical thing I do. Oh... I'm contradictory as well.
