Port Adelaide 5.6 (36)
St Kilda 15.12 (102)
On the big stage that is Friday night football St Kilda made a statement by disposing of a lack luster Port Adelaide side, who went in to the game marginal favorites, by 66 points. The margin suggests that St Kilda were playing at the top of their game and at times they were, however it was a very poor outing from the Power and one they would hope people forget.
Turning points of the match
St Kilda dominated from start to finish, the first goal of the game came from a poor switch kick from Michael Pettigrew and Nick Riewoldt gobbled it up by kicking truly in what really set the tone for the match. Port Adelaide weren’t clean all night and the Saints made sure they capitalized on the mistakes.
Key Players for Port Adelaide
Domenic Cassisi – He was one of the few Power players to hit the contest hard and run his guts out all night, finished with 9 tackles and 27 possessions.
Kane Cornes – Beat Dal Santo when on him for the first three quarters and got some of the ball himself ended with 20 touches.
Key Players for St Kilda
Lenny Hayes –Back to some of his best form, particularly in the first half, 32 touches, a goal and 7 tackles in a really solid hard working effort.
Nick Riewoldt – Kicked a great first goal and worked hard all night, he was rewarded with 10 marks, 4 goals 1 behind and 23 touches.
Musings from the match
• Once again St Kilda dominated their opponents through intensity.
• Port Adelaide had a shocker, turned over the ball and didn’t work hard enough.
• The Power had two players reported (Troy Chaplin and Dean Brogan); both should get reprimands at worst.
• Steven King went down with an injury at half time and the ruck duel was probably a draw for the match.
• St Kilda performed well early despite the lack of influence from Dal Santo, Montagna and Goddard.
• Lenny Hayes once again proved why he is St Kilda’s best midfielder.
• Nick Riewoldt is starting to hit form.
• St Kilda still has work to do and we shouldn’t get too excited for at least two more weeks (Western Bulldogs and Collingwood).
• Teams should never let Sam Fisher play loose man in defense; he finished with 8 marks and 28 touches.
• Warren Tredrea had a dirty night.
• Motlop needs to learn how to play better when things aren’t going his way.
Supercoach/Dreamteam news
Sam Fisher dominated SuperCoach with a great return of 179 proving he is capable of big scores to go with his consistent 100+ results.
Riewoldt looks to be back in Fantasy Footy form with 136 Dream Team points and 157 SuperCoach Points, not before time for those of you who have him.
Nathan Krakouer loves the half back line and finished with 86 Dream Team points and 102 Supercoach points, he is proving to be a great cash cow but when/do you trade him?
