Adelaide Crows – 12.14 (86)
Western Bulldogs – 17.16 (118)
The Bulldogs have gone some way to re-establishing themselves as the third best team in the competition this year, doing so with a convincing win away from home against the Adelaide Crows. Perhaps the most pleasing thing about the Bulldogs six goal victory was that they looked good going both ways; that is when they had the ball they used it well and when they didn’t they worked hard enough to impact the Crows efficiency the other way, usually resulting in the Dogs getting the ball again.
Turning points of the match
Akermanis kicked two very nice goals before half time, stealing valuable momentum and establishing a nice base for the Bulldogs to launch from. From there the Dogs ground out a solid win and for mine the result never looked in doubt.
Key Players for Adelaide
Taylor Walker – Awesome start, gradually had lest impact but still finished the game with an impressive 4 goals (3 behinds) and got his hands to the pill 18 times.
Scott Thompson – Again started really well with 16 of his 34 touches coming in the first quarter, a severely underrated player.
Key Players for the Western Bulldogs
Robert Murphy – The Bulldogs look much more dangerous with Murphy in the team. He finished with a great contribution of 4 goals and 18 possessions.
Adam Cooney – Time off has done him wonders- stood up whenever needed. His stats showed 29 touches and a goal.
Jason Akermanis – Only had 17 touches but that is enough to cut you up. 3 of those touches were goals off his own boot.
Musings from the match
• The Bulldogs needed to step up this week and they did so, had they of lost 4 on the trot we’d be looking at them in a very different light.
• Could it be that St Kilda teaching teams how to play football? Every team St Kilda has beaten this year has come out with a much improved performance the next week.
• Simon Goodwin left the field with an ankle injury.
• The Bulldogs out tackled their opponents 67-51.
• Shaun Higgins late withdrawal has a lot of people tearing their hair out, not the Bulldogs though, other players stood up in the forward line.
• I was wrong about ‘Aker’- he still has a lot to contribute.
Supercoach news
Adam Cooney- I was hoping for another bad week and to pick him up in a couple, may have to rush him in now, he had a solid score of 126.
Shaun Higgins- As mentioned above his withdrawal ruined a lot of our forward lines. Let’s hope he can get up this week.
Jared Petrenko- Is struggling, I’m going to stick with him though. Unless he gets dropped for a few weeks in a row.
