West Coast vs Melbourne Match Review

West Coast – 12.18 (90)
Melbourne – 13.4 (82)
West Coast would not be writing home about their victory over the Demons, it was far from convincing. The first quarter of football was characterised by ineffective disposals from both teams. The quality gradually increased but it was clear that these two teams were not playing the best football in the competition. Notably Melbourne ran out the match very well and could almost have won it but ran out of time, which is surprising because they had a 2 band bench since mid-way in the second quarter when Rivers went down.

Turning points of the match
The match was close for most of the time. Melbourne kicked three unanswered goals in the 3rd, and looked like kicking on, but they were quickly answered by four Eagles goals which set up their lead which eventually won them the match.

Key Players for Melbourne
Cale Morton – He was still playing some pretty good football at the end of the game even though he had a lot of time on ground due to the injuries. He took 13 marks.
Cameron Bruce – Got a lot of the hard ball and although started the game with poor effectiveness, he increased his effectiveness after the first quarter

Key Players for West Coast
Dean Cox – Was always going to have a good game against Melbourne’s less than top class ruck division (mind you Paul Johnson did a good job on him in the ruck, just not around the ground)
Mark LeCras – Had heaps of opportunities but still played well for 4 goals 6. He was helped by Frawley getting injured.

Musings from the match
• West Coast supporters are very quiet when they are behind, seems they have no faith.
• These are both bottom 4 sides
• Melbourne are still looking like picking up the priority pick
• West Coast will feature high on the draft too
• West Coast struggled to win at home, where Melbourne are famous for struggling
Daniel Kerr has a long term groin injury
Jarred Rivers couldn’t buy an injury free season, he has done his ankle
James Frawley has to deal with an adductor strain
• Foxtel are still crap at broadcasting football

SuperCoach news
The injury to Kerr will screw over a fair few fantasy coaches this week, if you don’t have him then celebrate. Jamie Bennell had a good game and could be up for selection this week for people wanting a cheap option. If you were stupid enough to take the risk on Rivers you got your just deserts. Not enough cheap touches for Davey this week could have people thinking twice about him, he was heavily tagged by Mark Nicoski though.
