Adelaide vs North Melbourne – Round 12 match recap

Adelaide – 9.14 (68)

North Melbourne – 3.6 (24)

Adelaide have won a hard fought wet weather game at AAMI Stadium to deny Adam Simpson in his 300th the same result that Tyson Edwards had just a week ago for that same milestone. The Crows led for the whole game but really sealed the game in the first and last quarters. Adelaide kicked 2.4 in the first but held the Roos scoreless to go into the first break with a 16 point lead. It was a tough struggle for the next two quarters but in the final term the Crows kicking 4.5 to the Roos 1.1 to seal the game and notch up another win.

Big Moment

The moment that highlighted the Roos opening term was when youngster Jack Ziebell was reported for high contact with Brent Reilly. The Roos remained scoreless in that term and young Ziebell went down with a suspected broken leg in the third.

Key Players for Adelaide

Michael Doughty and Scott Thompson – Each player gathered 31 touches and 7 tackles in a game that saw a lot of players get a possession count in the low 20’s. Thompson had 12 contested possessions, 19 uncontested possessions and an equal game high 6 inside 50’s. Meanwhile Doughty topped the game for effective kicks, with 16, and uncontested possessions, with 22.

Tyson Edwards – Went through two tags throughout the day but collected a handy 22 disposals, well down on his 41 from last week but it was wet so we’ll let him off. He also opened the scoring with a classy running goal from 40 minutes out after a tough arm wrestle to start the match.

Key Players for North Melbourne

Hamish McIntosh – 23 hit outs compared to Tippetts 21, but doubled Tippetts possession count with 20 disposals to his name, including 14 kicks, 6 marks and 2 tackles.

Nathan Grima – The ball was in the Roos backline a lot, and the Roos defence was using the ball amongst themselves, but he gathered 20 possessions, 7 marks and 5 tackles.

Musings from the match

· Three injuries: Brent Reilly (hammy), Lindsay Thomas (hammy), and Jack Ziebell (leg).

· Hamish McIntosh continued his good form, matching each of the Adelaide ruckmen in the ruck individually, and beating all in possessions.

· Three late withdrawals: Richard Douglas, Graham Johncock, and David Hale.

· With Hale gone it left the rucking to Petrie and McIntosh.

· Unfortunately for McIntosh, with three blokes rotating through the ruck he got beaten overall pretty convincingly but you can’t blame him for that. Adelaide had 56 hit outs to North Melbournes 37.

· Adelaide dominated the possession with 210 kicks to 198, and 170 handballs to 137.

· North had 10 more tackles than the Crows, but when your opposition has that much more of the ball you would hope you get more tackles I suppose.

Supercoach news

Jack Ziebell – Injured and reported, plus he only managed to get 10 points this week from three quarters of footy. Time to use the money he has brought you.

Hamish McIntosh – Continuing his form posting another 100+ score, and with an average of close to that he looks the goods for your ruck.

Nathan Grima – Posted 113 this week and will rise in price. If you have him you will be very happy with that.
