Essendon vs. Melbourne – Round 12 match recap

Essendon- 19.17 (131)
Melbourne – 13.5 (83)

Essendon
were quite convincing in patches against the bottom side in the competition. Melbourne allowed easy goals in the first and third quarters to allow the Dons to secure a commanding lead in to the last; it was ultimately un-closable. The game was free flowing and played mainly through the centre of the ground.

Big Moment
Maybe I am biased as a Melbourne supporter but Liam Jurrah’s first goal was pretty astounding. It didn’t change the game, but it gave the Demons a sniff. He almost took a specky in the goal square and then fell to the ground with the ball in front of him and soccered it through for a goal.

Key Players for Essendon
Jobe Watson – He was very good, probably best on ground. Beat McLean, even with all his talk in the papers.
Scott Lucas – Back to some decent form he was good on Melbourne’s best defender, Rivers

Key Players for Melbourne
Cameron Bruce – Was very good at getting free around stoppages and kicking the ball well
Colin Sylvia – Battled through some back problems and finished well, some great tough work in the midfield.

Musings from the match
• Essendon have wayyyyyy too many supporters
• ContestedFooty (Docklands) Stadium is great for night football, I was as warm as a baby chick
• A group of about 10 14 year olds in front of me were kicked out because they brought their own alcohol to the venue. I was immensely glad, because they were super annoying and not watching the game.
• Pretty sure every football supporter hates umpire McLaren, I heard some people talking about him after the game, tsk tsk.
• Bate is softer than Western Star butter, that butter is pretty tough, but you would want someone of his size to be harder.

Supercoach news
Jack Grimes with 72 is respectable, and that’s probably what he should be expected to do for the rest of the season. Watts had a decent second outing with 2 goals, not good for SuperCoach though, he only scored 25, but Fletcher was on him, what a compliment. Skipworth is to proving everybody who kept him that he is worth it. Mark McVeigh might be in trouble for striking watch out for that during the week.

I'm fiercely logical, opinionated and don't care too much for backlash. Luckily, I'm always right. Did I mention that I'm arrogant? I also support Melbourne; the most illogical thing I do. Oh... I'm contradictory as well.
