Here are this weeks answers from the games from round 13.
Essendon vs. Carlton
So this time, Essendon has all the hype their way and there is little for the Blues. Will this effect the Dons?
No. What a cop out that was for the Blues in round 4.
Who will get the job on Fev- who usually dominates against Essendon?
Tayte Pears as we all know now. Pears did a fantastic job considering the run he offered whilst also doing well on Fev.
Who will win the battle of the young ruckman out of Kruezer and Ryder?
Ryder was significantly better than Kruezer, but the Blue ruckman was one of the better players for the Blues.
Will Essendon miss the experience of McVeigh and McPhee?
Nope. With Watson out now, McVeigh’s one-week suspension is very timely.
Question from RodH
How well Welsh will go at stopping Judd?
Smashed him whilst also getting the ball 30 times by working off him in the way that seems the most effective. Judd had to go forward at one stage to try and get the “tagger” out of the game, such was his dominance.
Collingwood vs. Fremantle
How much will the Pies miss Scott Pendlebury?
Not much. Swan, Didak and Wellingham who is clone of Pendlebury anyway, filled the void quite well.
Will Chris Dawes show some improvement since his last game in the team- which was last year?
Looked out of his depth for most of the match but worked his way in as it went along. He’ll need a few games to get used to the tempo again. He wont get them though with Davis and Pendlebury to return to this line-up.
Will Tyson Goldsack be able to show any of the form of his very good debut year in 2007?
Best game of the year from him but he still has a long way to go. He’ll keep his spot until Clarke returns at the very least.
Who will Chris Tarrant line-up on in defence?
John Anthony, who he also get beaten by. Admittedly, the 22 more inside-50’s that the Pies had a fair influence on that contest.
Will Alan Didak be able to carry-on from his excellent form shown in Sydney?
Another BOG from Bang’ Bang’. That would be a highly probable 9 votes from the past 3 games…….
How much will the lonesome Josh Fraser be able to limit the damage of Aaron Sandilands?
Once again was dominated in the ruck with a difference of 35 hitouts between the two. Sandilands was easily Freo’s best player. It will be interesting to see how Fraser goes against Ryder who’s performance on ANZAC day subjected him to a lot of criticism.
How will the mature-aged recruit Hayden Ballantyne perform in his first game?
Got smashed by Harry O’Brien and then Shaw. I liked his physicality and there is plenty to work with.
Will there be a few happy punters by the end of this game considering Freo’s tempting odds of $6.25
As soon as Pavlich went down, the door was shut despite their dogged determination to stay within a few goals for 2 and a half quarters.
Adelaide vs. Sydney
Will Sydney be able to rescue their season with a win against an Adelaide side that traditionally dominates them?
Nope. Much like they did against Collingwood, they tried their best, but it wasn’t good enough.
Will the fact that Adelaide had a break and Sydney had a wet game last week affect the result?
I’d say that it did. Adelaide were rusty, much like most teams are after returning from the break, and Sydney’s wet-weather slog last week caught up with them in the 4th quarter.
Will it be more of the same for Sydney with their top-tiered players performing while their low-to-mid range player’s don’t follow suit?
It was a much more even performance compared to the past few games. Mattner, Grundy and Jack(who was very good last week as well mind you) were amongst Sydney’s best players.
Brisbane vs. Melbourne
Will it be the smashing that everyone is expecting?
Yes, and this was with Brisbane playing poorly.
How will the Jack Watts go after a bit of extra media attention?
Don’t mention Naitanui to Melbourne supporters unless you want an opinion with a bitter twist.
Will Liam Jurrah continue to excite after his impressive first game?
Not so much this week.
Will it be Colin Sylvia vs. the Brisbane midfield like it has been in the past 3 games for Melbourne?
Bruce was the one to stand up. Although his ball-use wasn’t too flash as per usual. Sylvia was tagged well until he went to the forward-line in the fourth and got some junk-time goals.
After a straight kicking game against the Hawks, will Jonathan Brown be able to continue on with this form?
Yep. Poor old Warnock……
Hawthorn vs. West Coast
Will Hawthorn be able to kick-start their season with a good performance and result at Subiaco?
Nope. They are in struggle-town. Although bieng percentage’ out of the 8′ means that thier season is still not over.
Will the return of Stephen Gilham show how much they missed him?
A late-withdrawral again. Hawthorn will just be making up the numbers if he does not return. they need him or Croad urgently.
How will Nick Naitanui go taking on Simon Taylor and Robbie Campbell in the ruck in his second game?
Terrible. His game in the forward-line though…….
Will West Coast show any signs of tanking?
No! say good bye to Scully, Tengrove or Butcher West Coast.
Can Lance Franklin put his mark on the competition starting here after an unspectacular start to the season?
I guess I need to give him some credit with kicking 4 goals. Most of them were cheap ones however. He really needs to lose some weight to get that agility back.
Geelong vs. Port Adelaide
The bookies have totally given up on Port giving them odds of $10 to beat Geelong who has had to travel from Perth in a hard game. Can Port at least get in within the line of 48pts?
Yep. You can thank the 5 to 2 goal last quarter from Port there.
Will Ablett continue handballing in his merry way, after getting a bit of heat from the media about him not kicking enough?
Looks like he’s listened. 36 possessions with 21 kicks! How much better is it when he kicks given how dangerous his kicking is.
Will the Cats be on self-preservation mode for the clash against the Saints next week?
They did what was needed in the first 3 quarters; then as expected took the foot off the gas after that.
Will Shannon Byrnes continue on his very good form from the past three games?
Yep. Dare I say it; the form small forward in the comp right now?
North Melbourne vs. Western Bulldogs
Will North be able to do the unexpected and beat the Bulldogs?
Kept up with them for 3 quarters, but the Bulldogs class came through in the end.
Will Bulldogs just continue on from their excellent form from before the break?
Typically rusty game from the team them given the week off. It isn’t too unexpected.
Will North Melbourne show the attacking-edge that Darren Crocker said that they will?
Yeah. It showed by the 52 inside-50s they had for the first time since round 3! The direct style of football will at the very least be something for the supporters to enjoy.
How will Liam Anthony go in his first game?
Good enough to be one of North’s best in his first game. 28 disposals which was the equal highest for his side. He will be a very good addition to North’s midfield group.
St Kilda vs. Richmond
Will the Saints be shown to having an eye on the clash against Geelong next week?
It looked like it in the first quarter! Normal service resumed thereafter of course.
Will Richmond continue to show the possession style that they did against West Coast?
Their style was to make clangers a common occurrence. They did will with a massive 50 in total.
Will this game show how much the Saints needed the mid-season break with an improved showing compared to their previous few?
Well, it is a bigger margin than those previous weeks, but they are still a fair bit off their best performances against the likes of Collingwood, Port and Freo. They absolutley monstered those teams.
How will Jarrod Silvester go in his first game?
Got monstered by Kozi’ as you would expect but did a good job offering himself as a link man in the backline when the Tigers had the ball.
