Brisbane 16.12. (108)
Geelong 9.11. (65)
The Brisbane Lions have dealt Geelong its second loss in as many weeks. With Geelong traveling to the Gabba with no less than 7 changes from last week the task looked like it may be too big for the Cats and it was. Brisbane were too strong and led at every change to eventually run out 43 point winners. Geelong had no answers in the Backline to stop Brown and Bradshaw. The Cats were already without Scarlett and Milburn and before the bounce Andrew Mackie was also a late withdrawal.
Big Moment
The Cats started well in the first quarter and were up by 14 points before the Lions began to get on top. Late goals put the Lions in front and this was the story of the night. Every time the Cats would surge the Lions were able to answer with quick goals to snub out any potential challenge by the Cats. Young Daniel Rich set up three goals in the first half and the Cats looked well out of the contest.
Key Players for Brisbane
Daniel Rich – Made his claim as the best new recruit of 2009 with an impressive display. Racked up a total of 32 possessions for the game with ten of these contested. 3 scoring assists and 4 inside 50s Geelong had no answer to this up coming star of the game.
Ashley McGrath – Really enjoyed watching his game coming out of defence. 30 possessions including 20 kicks, was instrumental in the victory. 7 inside 50s, 4 scoring assists he proved to be a real issue for the Cats.
Jonathon Brown – Looked like an unstoppable force up forward with Geelong having no answer here either. Took 15 marks for the match and ended the game with 4 goals and 3 behinds. Showed that he was just too good for the inexperienced Cat defenders.
Key Players for Geelong
Paul Chapman – Was clearly the best player for Geelong in a disappointing night. Had 35 possessions for the game including 11 inside 50s and 10 clearances. Of his 35 possessions 12 were contested the most of any Cat. Tried to bear the load of the missing Cats and couldn’t.
Corey Enright – Another player for the Cats who tried all night. Looked like he was in charge down in defence for the evening. Only had 20 disposals but had 6 rebounds from defence, toiled hard all night and was by no means disgraced.
Simon Hogan – Only playing his third game of the year Hogan showed that he has a lot of class. 24 disposals, eight of these being contested. Really even game with 5 inside 50s, 3 clearances, 3 rebounds and 4 tackles. Also kicked a nice goal on the run in the last quarter.
