Carlton – 16.13 (109)
Richmond – 12.17 (89)
It was the Brendan Fevola show at the G’, with a dominant 9 goal performance to be the difference in a 20 point win against the Tigers.
The Tigers definitely had their chances, especially given their scoring shots but the Blues were too good.
Big moment
3rd Quarter.
Fev’.
Mid-air.
Back-to-goal.
Goal.
You’ll see it.
Key Players for the Carlton
Brendan Fevola – 9 goals; a career best. It looked like a dog-day afternoon in the first quarter but gradually turned it around in a big way.
Andrew Carrazzo – Got the ball as usual but used it pretty well. Found space especially well as shown by his 22 uncontested possessions.
Shaun Grigg – One of the best in the midfield for Carlton with 29 possessions with 12 of them being contested ones.
Key Players for Richmond
Brett Deledio – Played on Gibbs in the first half and beat him. Played on Judd in the second half and beat him. His ball-usage wasn’t the best, being windy and all but his two goals were very handy.
Trent Cotchin – His best game since Freo with 26 possessions today. As you’d expect, his clean-hands and excellent kicking were a class above most.
Ben Cousins – Best game so far. Typical gut-busting’ game from the veteran, finishing with 35 disposals. I hope the Richmond mids’ are learning from him for their sake.
Musings from the match
• Of Fev’s 9 goal’s; only 3 of them came from marks inside-50, which would be slightly heartening for Will Thursfield
• There were plenty of positives for the Tiges’ with promising signs from Jayden Post and Tyrone Vickery.
• I’m particularly excited about Tyrone Vickery who has excellent agility and some nice sticky’ hands. If he can get some strength whilst not losing his athleticism; he will be a ripper.
• Judd got the ball 29 times but his influence was low compared to Grigg and Carrazzo.
• If Jack Riewoldt kicked that set-shot late in the 4th quarter, the margin would have been only 8 points with the momentum the Tiges way.
• If Shaun Hampson can continue to improve, Carlton will have one of the most devastating ruck-divisions in the game with their athleticism of him and Kruezer.
• That’s two games in a row for Carlton in which they didn’t play particularly well, but got the points. You’d take that in this year with the evenness of the top 8’ aspirants.
