Brad Scott new North Melbourne Coach

At 3pm this afternoon at Arden Street the North Melbourne Football Club announed that the new coach for the 2010 season would be Brad Scott for the next 3 seasons.

Mid this year Dean Laidley resigned as the Kangaroos coach after six and a half years in the role and was replaced by “caretaker” coach Darren Crocker who has only managed to coach the Roos to one win since his appointment.

Just before 3pm this afternon it was reported that Damien Hardwick was out of the running for the senior coaching job at the Roos. It is believed that the final two candidates for the position were Hardwick and Scott and with Hardwick out of the running it would be Scott who gets the appointment.

The announcement of Brad Scott as Senior Coach was confirmed by James Brayshaw who was present at the press conference along side Brad Scott. Scott stated that this new job is a very good fit for him and the club as he would like to create a learning environement.
He also said that he is not certain if he will be leaving the Pies coaching staff immediately and that Brayshaw had not spoken to Mick Malthouse. Whether he will be starting immediately or not would also be determined by whether Collingwood will make Scott serve out his contract with the club.

James Brayshaw stated that the Kangaroos wanted someone who had firmness in the pit of their guts, wouldn’t sleep until they had achieved something. Brayshaw also praised Scott by saying “He’s young, talented, hungry, smart and he’s a leader of men and we can’t wait for him to walk through the doors and start coaching our club.”

Brad Scott is a current assistant coach (more specifically midfield coach) of the Collingwood Football Club, but will be the Kangaroos senior coach for the next 3 AFL Seasons.

Scott played 168 AFL games with Hawthorn and the Brisbane Lions and was a dual premiership player with the Lions in 2001 and 2002. He retired in 2006 and has been on the Magpies coaching staff since then, first as ‘Development Coach’ and more recently as ‘Midfield Coach’.

Scott’s new appointent as North Melbourne Senior coach from 2010-2012 will be his first senior coaching role. As for current Caretaker coach Darren Crocker, he will remain in charge of the team until the end of this season.
