Brisbane Lions vs. Port Adelaide – Round 21 match review

Brisbane Lions-16.11 (107)
Port Adelaide-14.8 (92)

The Brisbane Lions have pretty much shot Port Adelaide’s finals aspirations by causing a spectacular comeback after the first quarter deficit of 47 points, to completely run over a yo-yo Power side and win by 15 points.

Big Moment

In the first quarter Port Adelaide came out firing and was surging ahead. The kicked the first 4 goals of the game before the Lions could manage one. By the end of the quarter Port had kicked 10.0 to finish the quarter on 60 points, while the Lions could only manage 3.2 to be on 20 points.
The game seemed completely done and dusted by the time the second quarter had begun. But Lions at home had another idea. They kicked the only four goals in the second term and only let the Power add 4 behinds to their tally. From the second quarter onwards Port Adelaide were disappointing and very terrible compared to their opening quarter efforts, kicking only another 4 goals for the remainder of the match (held goaless in the last term) compared to the Lions 13 goals.

SuperCoach News

Daniel Merrett got injured in the second quarter, with what seemed to be an ankle injury and then seemed to pull his hamstring. If you are like me and have him in your team in the finals series of Supercoach, you would be bitterly disappointed with his score of 9.
The big scorers with the Lions were; Ashley McGrath, who was the highest point’s scorer for the night (for both teams) finishing on 150pts. Daniel Bradshaw also had a good solid evening finishing with 119pts.
For the Power; Travis Boak was the highest scorer finishing with 129pts followed by Kane Cornes, who finished with 107pts.
