After 8 years at the helm of the Fremantle Football Club, their president Rick Hart will be stepping down at season’s end.
On Thursday Rick Hart informed Fremantle coaches, staff and players that he would be standing down from his position at Fremantle, and would not be seeking re-appointment to the football clubs board.
Hart will remain president for the next three months, which will enable a smooth handing over period to current board member and new President of the Fremantle Dockers Steve Harris, who will be the newly appointment President as of December 1st.
Hart stated that he was delighted to announce that Steve Harris has been “endorsed by the board of the Fremantle Football Club and the Western Australian Football Commission as the new president of the club effective from the first of December”. He also said that everyone is very positive about the clubs future both on and off the field.
Hart has been the President of the Dockers for eight years, from 2002 to 2008. He stated that he was extremely proud of the contribution that he has made to the Dockers during his eight years.
Hart’s replacement Steve Harris is already a part of the Fremantle Board (which he was appointed onto in 2008) and has been a Fremantle member since 2001. He is the managing director of The Brand Agency, (Perth’s most successful advertising firm).
Harris stated that he was completely honoured to be appointed the clubs fourth president and that it is a “great privilege to be given this opportunity, which to me is the best job in the AFL.”
