The AFL Commission yesterday approved the AFL and AFLPA Player Movement Working Party’s suggestion that AFL Clubs should be allowed to include rookie listed players as part of any trade in the upcoming trade week.
Football Operations Manager, Adrian Anderson stated that the 16 AFL Clubs were contacted within the last month and asked to provide feedback regarding this recommendation. He stated that the proposal had support from all clubs and was therefore put in place for this year’s trade period.
The approval of this is to encourage more movement of players between the 16 AFL Clubs post-season as well as allow clubs to be more flexible with their lists given the recent change to drafting and the draft concessions that will given to the Gold Coast Football Club.
Under these new rules;
• Any rookie player is included in a trade must be placed on the senior list of football club to which is traded to.
• Football Clubs are also able to include and count a post-season rookie upgrade (i.e. upgrading a player from the rookie list to the senior list), as one of their compulsory 3 changes to the senior list that they must do every year (as previously this was not possible).
