Dean Laidley joins Port Adelaide

Former North Melbourne Coach Dean Laidley will be continuing his AFL Coaching Career after agreeing to join the Port Adelaide Football Club’s coaching panel. Dean Laidley has agreed to join the Power’s coaching team as an assistant coach to Mark Williams in a two year deal.

Port Adelaide announced this morning that Laidley at the age of 42 has been assigned as a special “strategy and innovation” role, but that he will also be playing his part on match day, assisting midfield coach Matthew Primas.

So far in his coaching career Laidley has been an assistant coach with Collingwood and then moved into the position of Senior Coach of North Melbourne from 2003-mid 2009. During this time he coached 148 matches for the Roos and had his team playing in the finals in three of his final four complete seasons in charge.

In Round 12 of 2009 his stepped aside as the Kangaroos coach and did not reapply for the position. His assistant coach Darren Crocker took over for the remainder of the season until new coach Brad Scott was appointed as the Senior Coach for the next 3 years.
