How They Played – Milestone games in finals round 3

A look at how last week milestone players went in their respective games.

Travis Cloke – Cloke was playing in his 100th game on Saturday night, and it was one to forget. He only gathered 10 disposals, 3 of which were clangers, and only manages 0.1 on the scoreboard. Needless to say the result didn’t go his way either with the Cats smashing the Pies after half time.

Jason Gram – Also playing in his 100th, Gram had a modest day out on Friday night. He gathered 18 disposals, 11 of which were handballs, took 5 marks, and had 2 inside 50s. He had 6 clangers, and didn’t contribute on the scoreboard but I’m pretty sure that was the last thing on his mind when that final siren went and his Saints were up by 7 and in a Grand Final.

Jason Akermanis – For the second week running Aker didn’t have a cracker. Only had 14 disposals with an efficiency of just 57%, and he only had 4 tackles and 1 inside 50. No scoreboard contribution from him either which was odd considering the scrappy contest should have suited him. He had a decent first quarter but after that Steven Baker kept him quiet. We will have to wait until September next year to see if he continues his finals played tally.

Michael Malthouse – Well it was not a good night for Matlhouse on Saturday. His Pies couldn’t seem to get anything right and went down by a considerable margin accordingly. As such he is now stranded at equal second with Kevin Sheedy for most finals coached, with 43. I would stress though as I would expect to see the Pies in September action again next year.

Footscray/Western Bulldogs – Unfortunately for Dogs fans their beloved team will not be playing in a Grand Final for yet another season, taking that drought out to 48 seasons (1962-2009). They still have two seasons to break that drought before they equal South Melbourne/Sydney though.
