Upcoming AFL Milestones – 2009 Grand Final

It’s time to take a look at this week’s impending milestones. There is only two teams left, and as such there is only one milestone.

Farren Ray – Ray will run out on Saturday with the intention of walking home with a Premiership to his name. There is, however, another thing that will no doubt get overshadowed by the Grand Final, his 100th game. Ray currently has 99 games to his name, and should he get selected for Saturday’s big game it will take him into triple figures. Ray was picked up originally by the Western Bulldogs in the 2003 National Draft, and managed 7 games in his debut year. He gradually increased how many games he played in each season until 2008 when he struggled to hold a spot in the best 22. Ray requested to be traded to another club at the conclusion of the 2008 season, and during trade week he was sent to St Kilda along with the Dogs round 3 draft pick (48 overall) in exchange for the Saints round 2 draft pick (31 overall).
During 2009 Ray has played every game for the Saints and has had a great year. His first game against his old club he gathered 31 possessions and 11 marks, as if to show them what they were missing. Ray will be hoping for a game like that this weekend when he runs out to play for the thing all players want to hold in their hands, the Premiership Cup.
