Benjamin Stratton is a tallish (189cm) defender who can play against tall or smaller opponents. He is very good at rebounding off half back. He is a good at running through past somebody about to be tackled and get the handball receive. He can then use his fairly good pace to break away from chasing players and deliver pretty accurate kicks on the run. Stratton also has very good endurance which is proven by his 14-10 beep test result at the WA screening camp for the 2009 AFL draft. Ben Stratton movement ability was also showcased with an 8.34 sec agility run, which was second best at the WA screening. He also came third in the shuttle run and equal fifth in the vertical leap. It’s fair to say he is a good athlete.

His spoils are quite good and his ability to get in front of a leading player shows that he has some good pace. He is also able to read the play and fill holes where players are leading in to so that he can gain possession. Stratton is a clean mark if not a good mark, especially overhead. Stratton is no slouch at ground level; he can pick up the ball fairly well.

Worryingly, Benjamin Stratton did exhibit much chasing and tackling in the WAFL this year. In fact he didn’t register a single tackle in 20 games this year, which is a huge problem if you are a defender.

Benjamin Stratton is a good all around footballer and would be a welcome inclusion in to most backlines. His age of 20 may hold him back from going high in the draft but you can expect him to go late in the first round or in the second.

How could you possibly think a player could go through 20 games and not register a tackle? I think you’ll find they didn’t keep stats for tackles. Hence the zero.
