The Essendon Football Club’s chairman Ray Horbrurgh has announced that he will be standing down in December, from the position he has held at the Bombers since late 2005.
Ray Horbrurgh joined the Essendon board in 2003, and became the chairman of the club at the end of 2005.
In stepping down from his position, he stated that during his reign there were difficult times, but that he was proud of his position. Horbrurgh also authorised David Evans to be his successor as chairman of the club. He also stated that to be the chairman of such a great club was an absolute honour and that the Bombers are in good hands, with relatively new CEO Ian Robson being an “excellent addition” to the club and also has a great management team around him to push the club forward.
During his reign at the Bombers, he oversaw the end of Kevin Sheedy’s 26 year coaching reign and saw the appointment of Ian Robson as CEO and Matthew Knights as senior coach.
While Horbrurgh will be stepping down as chairman, he will continue to remain at Essendon, but as a director for a two year period.
Essendon’s new chairman will officially and formally appointed at the first board meeting following, the Bombers Annual General Meeting on December 21st.
