Geelong’s Senior Players not needed at training until 2010

A short list of Geelong’s most senior players will not be beginning pre-season training with the remainder of their team mates until training re-starts post Christmas and New Year in January.

The Cats are trying to avoid any sort of fatigue caused last season and in the past three seasons, by giving some players extra long breaks. Players such as Matthew Scarlett, Darren Milburn, Cameron Mooney and David Wojcinski are on the list and are not ‘officially required’ to start their training until the New Year to rest their bodies.

Geelong’s Football Manager Neil Balme stated “We’ll see them [senior players] all at some stage before then but no, some won’t be back full bore until January”. He added that Geelong has had three tough seasons and the club’s staff is dependent upon the senior players to look after themselves so they have healthy, rested yet fit bodies and ready to go again in 2010.
