Key Collingwood Players not attending Arizona Training Camp

Collingwood players, coaching and fitness staff departed Melbourne on Monday on route to Arizona (for the third consecutive year) for an intense and high altitude camp, but this time not all the Pies players are to be in attendance for the camp.

This year only about 20 players flew over to the Flagstaff training base for some intense training for their pre-season campaign. That leaves about 12 or so players that will be staying put in Melbourne. They will continue to train with coaches, fitness staff/trainers that also remained in Australia. The club believes that some players are better off staying in Melbourne for technical reasons, to work on skills or to recover from surgeries. Some players that stayed in Melbourne include: Josh Fraser, John Anthony and Paul Medhurst.

It was believed that Fraser, Medhurst and Anthony are training under modified programs to assist them with recovery from injuries they sustained during the 2009 season or surgeries they underwent post season.

Many of the Pies young players have also remained in Melbourne, and will be joined by the Pies new recruits following the NAB AFL Draft coming up this Thursday.

The Pies Arizona trip involves intense and high altitude training programs including hikes and weight training 2-3 times a day.

The team that travelled to Arizona will be returning to Melbourne on December 9th.
