Luke Ball is a little different to our other 2009 AFL Draft Prospects in that he already has 7 years of senior AFL experience. After being drafted to St Kilda in 2001 with the priority pick, which was 2nd overall, he spent his first year with the club playing for his High School (Xavier College) during his final year of studies. Debuting in round 1 of 2003, he managed 16 games in his first season.

Since debuting Ball has consistently averaged around 20 disposals a game, and already has a string of achievements to his name. He was the St Kilda captain for the 2006 season, co-captain in 2007, equal club best and fairest in 2005, an All Australian midfielder in 2005, and has played in two pre-season cup premierships.

2005 was clearly his best season. He played in all 24 matches that St Kilda partook in, had his highest average disposal count since debuting, and was awarded All-Australian and club best and fairest (joint with Steven Baker) honors.

Luke Ball would be a great asset to whichever team picks him up. He could be that player who brings added experience and leadership to a young developing team, or the player who gives a strong team the extra boost they might need for a tilt at the premiership.
