Nathan Ablett Signs with GC17

Nathan Ablett, son of Geelong great Gary Ablett Senior and brother of current Geelong star Gary Ablett Junior, is one step closer to making his AFL comeback after signing a contract with the new Gold Coast team. He will spend the 2010 season playing with Gold Coast in the VFL in a bid to ready himself for the trials of AFL footy when the team joins the national competition in 2011.

Nathan Ablett played in Geelong’s 2007 premiership victory before leaving the club for personal reasons. He moved up north to Queensland to start a career in the building industry and began playing some footy for AFLQ club Broadbeach. It was here that he regained his desire to play AFL and was enticed by the Gold Coast due to its young developing team. Ablett will add some experience (3 years in AFL and a premiership) to the young side and he will no doubt hope to take on a leadership role of some sort.

Ablett should be a great asset to the Gold Coast team having already played 32 senior games, kicking 46 goals in the process, and playing in Geelong’s record breaking premiership in 2007.
