North Melbourne Appoints Jason Lappin & Shane Watson for 2010

North Melbourne has finally filled all its coaching positions for 2010. The Kangaroos have appointed Jason Lappin (two-time Wangaratta Premiership Coach) and Shane Watson (former Collingwood utility) as their final two coaches in a mostly new coaching squad.

Shane Watson will be joining the Kangaroos as backline coach and stated that he was looking forward to working with Brad Scott and the rest of the Roo’s coaching staff.
Watson played 141 career games with Collingwood. He also played 3 seasons in the VFL with the Northern Bullants.
Post AFL, he started his coaching career; first he coached Lower Plenty in the Diamond Valley Football League and then became an assistant coach with Sandringham in the TAC Cup Competition. In the last 3 years he has been the senior coach of the TAC Cup team the Eastern Ranges.

Jason Lappin joins the Roos as development coach and said that with the young list, draft picks and new facilities that the Kangaroos have “it’s a good time to be at the club and a good opportunity for me to cut my teeth”.
He joined the Western Bulldogs as a player in 1996 and unfortunately broke his leg during the season. In 1997 he was rookie listed and then released from the club. In 1998-1999, he played with Wodonga in the Ovens and Murray Football League and from 2000-2002 played with Coburg in the VFL.
For four years spanning from 2002-2006 he joined Wangaratta as an assistant coach and player. During these 4 years he won 4 best and fairest awards and then after the fourth year retired from playing the game. In 2007 and 2008 he coach Wangaratta to two grand final wins.

New North Melbourne Coach Brad Scott is very pleased in the two men selected to fill the last two vacant roles at the Roos. He said that both men “are very much in line with our philosophy to create the best learning and development environment in the AFL”.

Shane Watson (backline coach) and Jason Lappin (development coach) are the last two appointed members of the Kangaroos coaching team for 2010. Fellow members of the team are: Darren Crocker (senior assistant/midfield coach), Glenn Archer (specialist coach) Brett Allison (forward coach), and John Lamont (development coach).
