Position: Small Midfielder
Sam Ried, the brother of Collingwood’s Ben Reid is an athletic tall defender that will most likely find himself being picked up late round 1 to round 2 due to his promising speed, endurance clean hands and disposal.
Currently at 192cm’s tall, he is at a good height but his current weight of 84 kilograms will mean that who ever picks him up, will most likely have to develop his body in the reserves next year whilst he adds some size on to his frame.
His draft camp results have really enhanced his chances in getting picked up higher than originally expected. His 20 metre-sprint time (2.92 seconds) and beep test result (14.7) were 4th best overall, which are excellent numbers for his size. He also showed that he has a good leap on him as well with the 6th best result (66cm).
Given that a fair few teams require a tall defender or two; whoever picks up Sam Reid will be getting a solid defender with some excellent attributes.
