Port Adelaide have had a couple years of building up their list again. Currently they have many players at the perfect ages in their football careers which means finals should not be out of the question. For that to happen the following players must have great 2010 seasons.
1. Dean Brogan
Brogan is now the key ruck for Port Adelaide with the loss of Brendan Lade which leave a huge hole in the line up. Brogan has been around for a long time but will need to put together a really good season if Port wants success this season. With 142 games in his career Brogan knows what needs to be done but the question is at the age of 31 can he do it? Last season he delivered being ranked 6th in the league for hit outs this certainly needs to be repeated. With no other experienced option it all lands with Brogan.
2. Daniel Motlop
Motlop could only manage 11 games last season and 22 goals. For mine Motlop is a key up forward for the power. His ability to do the uncanny is a great attribute and can win games. With the power really needing targets up forward a fit and firing Motlop is something that will have all Port fans smiling. It was not too long ago (2008 season) that Motlop kicked 57 goals for the year. A performance like that is not beyond someone with his talent.
3. Warren Tredrea
Despite the fact that Tredrea is heading toward the end of his football career his importance to Port Adelaide’s season has not decreased. Kicked 51 goals last season and needs to again if Port Adelaide want to go anywhere in 2010. Tredrea shoulders much of the work load up forward and rightfully so. He is a talented player who knows exactly how to bet the job done. A good season from Tredrea again puts Port in a good position.
4. Danyle Pearce
The Midfield group for Port Adelaide all has valuable experience. Josh Carr, Kane Cornes, Domenic Cassisi and Steven Salopek have played well over the 100 game mark. While they are all very important for mine Danyle Pearce is at the stage in his career when he can take the next step. At almost 24 years old and 94 games Pearce needs to establish himself as an elite midfield player this season. If he can do this it takes the pressure off the group and also creates more options through the centre of the ground. Pearce has the ability no doubt but is he able to become Ports best midfield player?
5. Troy Chaplin
Chaplin had a good 2009 season playing 20 games for the season as a key position back line player. At 196 cm and 100 kg he is one of only a few players with that kind of height in the backline. This means he will be playing on the likes of Hall, Fevola, Brown and Bradshaw who need to be stopped or can really hurt you on the score board. Chaplin is at the perfect age of almost 24 and again has been in the system for long enough to really take the next step in his career. The backline was an area in which Port needed improvement in 2009. A good season from Chaplin will drastically improve this.
