West Coast – 2.8.14 (80)
Port Adelaide – 4.19.8 (158)
It was stinking hot conditions at Subiaco for the clash between the Eagles and Power. So hot in fact that the AFL implemented it’s “heat policy” meaning there were extended breaks between quarters and the full 8 man bench was used, rather than having substitutes. The game started off close with Port Adelaide getting up by 10 points at the first change thanks to a supergoal from Scott Harding. The second quarter saw West Coast kick only 1 goal and 7 behinds in an inaccurate display whilst Port managed 5.1. This trend would continue for much of the match as Port ran out 78 point victors.
Key Players for West Coast
Chris Masten – Was head to head with Danyle Pearce for much of the day. He gathered 28 disposals, with 20 handballs included, as well as taking 3 marks.
Luke Shuey – Grabbed the opportunity to play the whole game by the scruff of the neck after being a late substitute last week. He gathered 24 disposals and kicked a running supergoal in a great effort to retain a spot for the next practice match.
Key Players for Port Adelaide
Justin Westoff – Relished the opportunity to be the big guy in the side with no Brogan. He gathered 23 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles, and kicked 1.1.0.
Danyle Pearce – Faced off with Masten for the whole day and gathered 24 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles, and kicked one of his teams 4 supergoals.
Musings from the match
- The Eagles were sloppy for much of the match, whilst Port seemed flawless.
- West Coast were wasteful in the second quarter, kicking 0.1.7, while Port added 0.5.1 to their total.
- Port Adelaide scored 4 supergoals!
- West Coast were woefully inaccurate, kicking more behinds than goals and supergoals combined.
- Port Adelaide on the other hand managed 4 supergoals and 19 goals, but only scored minors on 8 occasions.
- West Coast had more of the ball, but obviously couldn’t use it.
- Port Adelaide only had 10 hit outs compared to West Coasts 41!
Supercoach musings
Brad Ebert (112) and Luke Shuey (108) both scored in excess of 100, while Danyle Pearce (121) was the only Port player to do so. Despite racking up the numbers Justin Westoff only managed 57. Those who were hesitant about picking up Shuey must be considering him now.

well done all the power boys, keep it up
I am an Eagles supporter but predicted the loss due to the lack of midfield experience and playing of unfit players like Waters. Port need the cash so are highly motivated to pick up some spondulas in the NAB Cup. Plus they were garbage the last 2 years when they were expected to do well

Had $10 multi on Saints, Port and the Dockers for a profit of $75, heart was in my mouth today but I got lucky. Roll on footy season.
