AFL fans are annoyed and shocked by the AFL’s decision to increase the price of the weekend ‘Footy Record’ by 25%. Starting in Round 1, the Record is now $5, even though there is hardly any additional content from last year.
The AFL’s media manager Patrick Keane stated that when compared to other sports magazines the ‘Footy Record’ provides excellent content. He also added that although the price increase was unfortunate for fans, the actual price had only increased by 50 cents in the past 5 years.
Many supporters have commented on the 25% price increase, and have been appalled by AFL’s decision. Fans are now re-thinking purchasing the magazine when attending matches. Some people are saying it’s not worth purchasing when all the information needed can be found in newspapers, while others have said straight out they will not buy it.
What is your reaction to this?
Would you pay $5 for the AFL Footy Record?

I agree that the record has quite good content for a weekly publication, however it is full of advertising! You would get a similar amount of adverts in a newspaper and you pay a fifth of the price. The AFL has enough money – $5 is ridiculous
Last time I went to the footy, the Record was terrible. Definitely isn’t the same as what it was when I first went.
Next time, if I do go, I’ll be taking the newspaper. Does anyone remember the days when the footy record had the horse racing in it???
It’s simple. You print the team sheets out with the goals and points columns next to them that costs about 15 cents. That’s what most people do with their record anyways. If you want to read about football just come to ContestedFooty
Haven’t bought a Record since God’s dog was a pup. Given the amount of advertising, it’s a joke that there’s a price tag at all!!! The content is pretty average and padded heavily. Terrible value (like every other purchase at the footy!)
@ Craig: I remember when the race results were on the scoreboards at every ground! I’ve never been interested in the hayburners, but I certainly remember the results being shown. In those days, you needed a Record because the progress scores from other games — they were all played on the same day!!! — were shown on the scoreboard with letter codes. The Record told you who teams A and B, C and D, and so on were. Ah, those were the days. . .
Just the way printed media is going
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the footy record freely available online every week anyway?
