Today, a new sponsorship deal was announced between AFL umpires and eye care organisation OPSM.
OPSM is a leading company in the eye care industry and after being established 78 years ago in 1932, it has branched out and has over 300 stores in both Australia and New Zealand.
The new deal between the AFL umpires and OPSM is a 2 year sponsorship deal (2010-2011) and will see the umpires wear the company’s logo on their tops.
Additionally, as part of its sponsoring, OPSM will be offering free vision testing at various games throughout the 2010 home and away season.
The AFL’s marketing and operations manager Paul Waldren, hopes that with the new partnership Waldren supporters will become more aware and be encouraged to have their vision test every 2 years, which is what is the recommended period by optometrists.

Oh, no! Surely someone is taking the piss? Will the eye tests be provided in breaks between quarters — boom, boom!
I’m genuinely struggling to figure out whether this is a benefit to OPSM. For the umpires, it’s a no-win scenario and it’s not hard to imagine they’d be upset. Still, for OPSM, they DO say that ANY publicity is good publicity. What’s next, Guide Dogs Victoria?
Pretty ironic and funny I would say…………..
It’s almost difficult to believe it’s a real sponsorship!
Actually one of the challenges which people starting a new on-line company face is that of acquiring guests to their web site.
