Western Bulldogs – 1.11.17 (92)
Port Adelaide – 1.12.8 (89)
You can’t say much more than it was a fantastic game. Port Adelaide came out of the blocks and threatened to run away with the match really quickly. The Western Bulldogs dug deep though, and after Barry Hall started shakily he managed to top score with 4 majors. The lead changed on multiple occasions and even if one team had the run of play the other would find something out of nothing to keep in the contest. It came down to the last 2 minutes when Big Bad Barry took a fantastic pack mark (it was reminiscent of Michael Gardiners mark against Geelong last year) and gave the ball to Brian Lake who sealed the win.
Key Players for the Western Bulldogs
Ryan Griffen – His explosive pace was key to the Dogs whole game. He gathered 19 possessions and was frequently seen bursting out of defence as he got loose of Kane Cornes. Chipped in with a both a 6 pointer and a 9 pointer too.
Barry Hall – Still looks good kicking 4.3 from 12 possessions. Not only did he have 7 scoring shots he also had a hand in 3 others, including handing the ball off to Brian Lake after a fantastic pack mark who then kicked the winning goal. Inspirational stuff really.
Key Players for Port Adelaide
Scott Harding – Didn’t get much of the ball but lifted when he needed to. He kicked 2.0 from his 13 touches, with both goals coming within 3 minutes during the last quarter to put the Power in front with just a few minutes left.
Robbie Gray – Gray got the tagging job on Cooney in the first quarter but he was then freed up and spent the rest of the match gathering his 21 disposals, 5 tackles and 2 goals.
Musings from the match
- From the back it looked like the Dogs were playing Carlton
- What’s with Cameron Cloke’s new ink?
- Bulldogs squandered heaps of opportunities kicking a massive 17 behinds.
- The Bulldogs fans were getting annoyed like it was a regular semi final.
- Hargrave deliberately ducked his head and ran into Cassisi’s crotch with just 20 seconds to go to get a free kick and basically win the game for the dogs.
Supercoach musings
For the Dogs Daniel Cross top scored with 131points, and he was followed by teammate Barry Hall who scored 108. Hall is quickly looking like great value at just $366,000. For Port Adelaide nobody reached triple figures but Robbie Gray came as close as you can with 99.

Barry could have easily gotten 7 last night.
As good as Port were, you can't deny our poor kicking was a lifeline.
Geez Alec, how one eyed are you! Port received two very similar frees (one to Gray earlier was even softer than Harbrow's) during the match…
Dogs didn't play well, kicked poorly, and Port were at their best – it's going to be a long year for the Power (again)
