North Melbourne vs. Port Adelaide – Round 13 Match Review

North Melbourne – 19.15 (129)
Port Adelaide – 14.9 (93)

North Melbourne have continued their sneaky run towards the top 8 with an impressive and free-flowing victory against Port by 36 points.

The game finished with plenty of standout performers with Lachie Hansen kicking 5 goals, Jay Schulz kicking 7 and Brent Harvey dominating the midfield.

The game was played with North gradually increasing their advantage as the game went on.
Port mounted a fight-back on the back of Daniel Motlop who kicked two goals in succession early in the last quarter.
The margin got down to 15 points, but after that; North kicked 4 of the last 5 goals to win by a comfortable 36 points.

Key Players for North Melbourne

Lachie Hansen – After having about 5 shots on goal last week for no return, this week was a fair bit different with his 5.1 return. Pity the break is coming up because he’s really found his feet in the forward line.

Brent Harvey – The dominant midfielder on the ground. Played his typical hard running role to a t’. Finished with 32 possessions and 2 goals.

Key Players for Port Adelaide

Jay Schulz – His career best game with his 7 goal haul. Marked the ball extremely well and more importantly, showed that he could possibly lead the forward line that is desperately asking for someone to take control of it.

Danyle Pearce – Ports best midfielder by some margin. Played a good 4 quarter game and his 7 clearances were a game high.

Musings from the Match

  • Credit to Ports endevour once again. They are simply carrying a lot of players who struggle to have an influence.
  • You have to question their game-plan considering that they gave their all and ended up losing by 36 points.
  • North’s style was quite entertaining to watch at times.
  • Pity the crowd wasn’t that good with 15,109 turning up to Etihad Stadium.
  • After struggling to have an influence in the games he’s plaed this year, Daniel Pratt had an excellent game off the back flank,
  • Jacob Surjan did thejob on Lindsey Thomas who as you probably know was coming off an amazing game last week.
  • Brent Harvey’s great game was well supported by the likes of Swallow and Greenwood who were both very good.
  • That’s Port’s sixth straight loss with their chances of the finals to be gone.
  • North are on equal points with Hawthorn , Carlton & Sydney(8th-6th) but are a fair bit behind on percentage.
  • SuperCoach points – Highs & Lows
Brent Harveys 97% disposal efficiency and 32 possessions helped him score an excellent 152 points which was the highest score by 14 points.
As well as being their best player Danyle Pearce scored excellently with a score of 138 points.
For the two dominant forwards, Schulz scored 127 points and Hansen scored 116 points from their collective total of 12 goals from the game.
Other players to score well include Swallow (119), Grima (102 points), Cassisi (101 points), Pratt (101 points) and Surjan (100 points).

Those with youngsters Cunnington (19 points) Cameron Hitchcock (59 points) and Jackson Trengove (47 points) in their starting 18 would have been disappointed with their scores.
Lindsey Thomas was well down on his 217 point total last week with his score of 57 points.
