Gary Ablett – Gold Coast Suns Captain

The inevitable has happened….Earlier today the Gold Coast Sun’s biggest name recruit Gary Ablett Junior was announced as the first ever captain of the club.

As the inaugural captain of the club, Ablett will be supported by Vice Captain Nathan Bock and Deputy Vice Captain Campbell Brown.

The remainder of the 2011 Leadership group was also announced, which includes Michael Rischitelli, Daniel Harris, Zac Smith and last year’s VFL captain Marc Lock.

Ablett’s reaction to being selected as the club’s first ever captain was as follows:  “Every player wants the respect of his peers and to be chosen as captain by the players makes the honour of leading the side incredibly special.”

“We are a new club and with that comes the responsibility of being a leader not only for the players on and off the field but also for the club more broadly. A significant part of my role will be to ensure we as players adhere to our club values and that the club as a whole extends it’s reach out into the Gold Coast community for all the right reasons.”

The clubs leadership group was determined by the playing group last year during the club’s pre-season training camp at Mooloolaba.
