Stephen Coniglio in detail
Stephen Coniglio is perhaps one of the most talked about draft prospects in the AFL for several reasons. First people talked about Coniglio because of his footballing ability, then they talked about the possibility of him choosing cricket over football and finally people talked about rumours he was going to boycott the 2011 Draft because he didn’t want to go to GWS.
All this speculation has drawn attention away from the most important thing, that is, Coniglio is possibly the best U18 player in the country.
Coniglio is a good sized midfielder who can also play forward. Regardless of his position Coniglio uses his ability to win clearances and beat his opponents for pace to burst clear of contests and dictate play. If he doesn’t beat his opponent in one play he tires them out with his superior endurance, ensuring he works his way into the game in the end.
I see Coniglio starting his career as half forward, later turning into a clearance player who rests forward to great effect. Of course this is assuming he ends up playing AFL football.
