West Coast’s Patrick McGinnity was today punished after an investigation surrounding inappropriate and vilifying comments made towards Melbourne player Ricky Pettard about his mother.
Patrick McGinnity was charged under the AFL’s code of conduct regarding respect towards women. He has been suspended for one match, fined $2500, will undergo counselling in relation to the AFL’s respect and responsibility policies, and apologise to Ricky Pettard.
The incident occurred as the Eagles and Demons left Etihad Stadium at half time in Round 21. It is believed that there was a physical and verbal exchange between McGinnity and Pettard when McGinnity made comments about Pettard’s mother.
McGinnity’s one match suspension means he will miss West Coast’s clash against Essendon this weekend at Paterson Stadium.
