Brendan McCartney new Western Bulldogs coach

At 1pm today, the Western Bulldogs at a press conference announced their new senior coach for 2012 and beyond would be Brendan McCartney.

At the press conference at Whitten Oval, the Western Bulldogs chief executive Simon Garlick announced the news that they had finally appointed Brendan McCartney as the new senior coach.

Garlick said his presentation and his strengths in being able to develop talent made him hard to decline as a coach. ”Brendan’s experience, leadership, technical capacity, values and integrity shone out from the moment that discussion with us began ” Garlick said.

McCartney, who signed a deal for the next 3 years, said that he was very honoured to be chosen to coach the Bulldogs

McCartney was this year an assistant coach alongside Mark Thompson and under James Hird at Essendon. He was previously an assistant and development coach at Richmond in 1998 and 1999 and then spent 11 years as assistant coach of Geelong contributing to their 2007 and 2009 premiership wins.
