MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - APRIL 24: Brendan Fevola and Johnathan Brown of the Lions push and shove with James Frawley and Matthew Warnock of the Demons during the round five AFL match between the Melbourne Demons and the Brisbane Lions at Melbourne Cricket Ground on April 24, 2010 in Melbourne, Australia. 11th vs. 6th

Brisbane’s disappointing season is continuing; they haven’t won in yonks. Melbourne put on a clinic last round against a poor Sydney outfit. That being said Melbourne suck anywhere but the MCG and haven’t won at the Gabba since Jesus was born. Melbourne smashed Brisbane last time, but that was at the home of football and Fev and Brown were lame ducks. Are they still lame ducks? (more…)

Melbourne vs. Sydney – Round 17 Match Review

Melbourne – 22.10 (142)
Sydney – 10.9 (69)

Melbourne put on a clinic in the first three quarters before Sydney added a touch of respectability to the score-line in the last. At one stage Melbourne were 91 points the better of Sydney. The Swan’s hopes of finals are drastically reduced now.

Melbourne moved the ball quickly and well. Sydney seemed off the pace; always half a meter behind. (more…)

SportsBet Odds: $2.30 vs $1.62*

11th vs. 6th

Sydney has beaten Melbourne every time since round 4 2006; over four years and five games ago. That last victory for the Demons was at the SCG, surprisingly which doesn’t bode well for the Demons’ home ground advantage. Sydney are coming off two healthy wins while the Demons narrowly missed out against Freo last week due to a poor start. The Demons have made the start of the game their focus along with their lack of goal scoring this year. With their best six up forward this week their will be little excuse for not kicking a winning score. (more…)

Fremantle vs. Melbourne – Round 16 Match Review

Fremantle – 11.16 (82)
Melbourne – 10.11 (71)

Fremantle blasted Melbourne in the first quarter and continued their good work in the second. The shocking happened though; Melbourne came back. They kicked seven unanswered goals and came within a point of the Dockers. Fremantle regained their composure to secure a fairly key win for them to stay in the hunt for the four. (more…)

Fremantle vs. Melbourne
SportsBet Odds: $1.27 vs $3.90

4th vs. 11th

Last time these two teams met Melbourne destroyed Fremantle at the MCG. However close to one year on I don’t think many would have thought that Fremantle would be in the strong position they find themselves in late in the season. Melbourne last week had a massive win over Essendon, while Fremantle had a slip up against Richmond in Melbourne. (more…)

Melbourne vs. Essendon – Round 15 Match Review

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Melbourne – 19.8 (122)
Essendon – 14.19 (103)

Melbourne confirmed their status as a young team on the rise with a solid 19 point win against an Essendon team seemingly lacking direction and discipline.

Whilst the Bombers were inaccurate and the Demons did score quite a few goals from free kicks the final result really did seem appropriate based on the way the game was played, the Demons simply had more confidence in their game plan and executed it with much more authority than their more fancied rivals and that ultimately was the difference.

Melbourne vs. Essendon – Round 15 Match Preview

Friday, July 9th, 2010

SportsBet Odds: $1.92 vs $1.92

14th vs. 12th

What an important match this is for both of these clubs. A win in this clash for Melbourne will just about guarantee they aren’t going to finish last and undoubtedly it would shift the focus onto the outside possibility of making finals rather than winning the Wooden Spoon. For Essendon this is a must win game, pressure is mounting on Matthew Knights and a loss here is really going to make the situation worse. (more…)

St Kilda vs. Melbourne – Round 14 Match Review

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

St Kilda – 15.10 (100)
Melbourne – 9.11 (65)

This match went largely as expected, the Saints started well with three quick goals before Melbourne fought back. The next two quarters followed the same trend as Melbourne tried hard but could never really take the ascendancy off the Saints. In the last quarter the Saints kicked away to record a solid win. SportsBet Odds: $1.15 vs $5.75

3rd vs. 14th

Earlier in the year this could have been a great match up as the Saints were struggling for form, now however the Saints have rediscovered the confidence and form that saw them finish 2009 as minor premiers.

This match will be a good test for the young Demons who are on the right path to becoming one of the better clubs in the league over the next few years. (more…)

Adelaide vs. Melbourne – Round 13 Match Review

Sunday, June 27th, 2010
ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA - JUNE 05: Simon Goodwin of the Crows kicks the ball during the round 11 AFL match between the Adelaide Crows and the Fremantle Dockers at AAMI Stadium on June 5, 2010 in Adelaide, Australia. (Photo by Morne de Klerk/Getty Images)

Adelaide– 16.21 (117)
Melbourne – 11.7 (73)

Melbourne were deplorable. They do not break their curse of 9 years of losses at AAMI. Frankly the score line flatters Melbourne who were beaten from pillar to post in the first half and should have been far more behind than they were. This was due to some woeful kicking in front of goal by Adelaide. (more…)
