The Collingwood Football Club has consolidated their position at the top of the AFL ladder after 17 rounds by a convincing 82 point win of Richmond at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.
The Pies dominated the match all afternoon and kicked the first 5 goals of the match to lead by 23 points at the first break. They then opened up the second quarter by kicking the first 5 goals once to put the game beyond doubt of the flat Tigers ever catching up.

North Melbourne have simultaneously kept their finals chances alive and sent the Tigers a huge reality check as to where they are at as a club with a comfortable 50 point victory in trying conditions. The main reason for the result was North’s superior appetite for the contest but they also demonstrated that extra bit of polish that separates a finals contender from a team rebuilding like the Tigers are. Richmond has pulled of a remarkable last quarter comeback to down the Swans by just 4 points on Sunday afternoon. The first quarter was fairly close but the Swans stretched themselves out to a 33 point lead deep into the third quarter, and looked home. The Tigers were not going to just lie down though. (more…)

15th-16th There is still a lot of ability on the Tigers list but they are going to struggle for a few years regardless. I like young Martin and think he’ll have a pretty quick impact at senior level and if the likes of Cousins, Deledio and Foley decide they have had enough of ‘passable ’ football then the Tigers have the ability to snag eight or nine wins in 2010.
