Melbourne vs. Collingwood – Round 12 Match Review

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Melbourne – 11.10 (76)
Collingwood – 9.22 (76)

The first draw of the season. Collingwood dominated early but failed to capitalise on the scoreboard; kicking disastrously all day in front of the goals.

Melbourne were okay without being amazing. Melbourne’s backline worked really hard but they found it very difficult to get it out of defence. (more…)

Melbourne vs. Collingwood – Round 12 Match Preview

SportsBet Odds: $5.10 vs. $1.17

13th vs. 2nd

The traditional Queen’s Birthday match between the Dees and the Pies has a bit more verve than it should because of Collingwood’s one point victory in round two. The Demons love to stand up for this game as it is their biggest for the year if they don’t make the finals. (more…)

Collingwood vs. Western Bulldogs – Round 11 Match Review

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Collingwood – 17.11 (113)
Western Bulldogs – 16.7 (103)

Collingwood have managed to hold off a fast finishing Western Bulldogs side to win a true 8 point game and move to second on the AFL ladder. The result is bad news for the Dogs who are now 2 games shy of a top for place, the result also flattered them as they could have easily lost by 5+ goals if not for their fast finish. (more…)

Collingwood vs. North Melbourne – Round 7 Match Preview

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

SportsBet odds: $1.21 vs. $4.60

2nd vs. 11th

Fresh off two wins in a row and wins in three out of their last four games, the Roos have a fair test on their hands this week with the impressive Collingwood who has taken all before them since losing to the Saints in round 3.

On face value, this should be a fairly straightforward game, but with the old apprentice Brad Scott in the opposition coaching box, it adds a little bit extra to the contest.
Scott’s intimate knowledge of the Collingwood playing group will no doubt be used from when he was development and then assistant coach but who knows of what this will actually translate to. (more…)

Carlton vs. Collingwood– Round 6 Match Review

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Carlton – 16.6 (102)
Collingwood – 24.11 (155)

Collingwood has taken out their arch rivals Carlton by 53 points at the MCG on Sunday afternoon to win the Richard Pratt Cup and has now won the past 2 encounters against the Blues.
It was mostly smooth sailing for the Pies in the first half, and they led by 28 points at the main break. But in the second half the Blues came out firing and kicked the first four goals of the third quarter. Luke Ball then steadied the Pies with his third goal for the day.  From then on it was goal for goal until Collingwood finish the quarter strongly with the last four goals.

Both teams were evenly matched in opening 10 minutes of the last quarter; however the Pies were able to finish faster and stronger and kicked 7 of the 10 goals scored in the final term to come away with a strong win. (more…)

Collingwood vs Essendon – Round 5 Match Review

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Collingwood – 18.12 (120)
Essendon – 8.7 (55)

Collingwood has stunned a lacklustre Essendon outfit in the ANZAC Day Match. It was all the Pies from the outset with Essendon held goalless for the first quarter while Collingwood piled on 7 of their own. It was the biggest first quarter lead ever in a match between these two sides, and the game was basically over just a quarter of the way through the match. The Bombers got their first goal through Scott Gumbleton just 17 seconds into the second quarter but were unable to claw their way back into the game with the Pies running out 65 point victors. Collingwood vs. Melbourne – Round 2 Match Review

Saturday, April 3rd, 2010

Collingwood – 12.14 (86)
Melbourne – 12.13 (85)

The score-line says it all. Melbourne were fantastic in the first quarter, completely opposite to last week. The game normalised in the 2nd and 3rd quarters were the Pies were slightly better. The last quarter was a thriller. Melbourne kicked two consecutive goals to go two goals in front and looked like they would push on for the win. Collingwood hit back and booted two on the trot. With seconds remaining in the game and Collingwood leading by a single point Melbourne’s Rohan Bail had the ball free on the 50m arc. He kicked it to the goal line where a Melbourne player, Petterd, should have taken the mark but it was spoiled by Sidebottom. The ball is stopped centimetres away from the line by Heath Shaw and the siren sounds. Amongst massed confusion, the Pies had won a gripping game that could have gone either way. (more…)

Key SuperCoach players for round 19 – Finals edition

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

It’s finals time!
This week and from now on, the format has changed a little bit for the finals.
Here are the players worth keeping/selling for the finals.

Bargains for the finals
Liam Anthony
If you are low on money, he is ideal at $353 200 for a safe trade. He’s averaged 93pt’s since his debut in round 13.

Scott Pendlebury
Last chance to jump on at his cheap price of $468 500. He has been excellent in the past two-weeks with scores of 131pt’s and 159pt’s.

Leon Davis
He has scored 117pt’s and 135pt’s in his past two weeks and still cheap at $491 900.

Josh Drummond
Barring an injury, he is unbelievably cheap considering his scoring potential of $427 500.

If you take out the torrential-downpour game against Freo, he’s averaged 111pt’s since he has come back from his calf injury.

Brent Reilly
He’s in excellent form and at an excellent price of $435 600. His 4-week average of 107pt’s is pretty damn good for that price.

Shaun Burgoyne

Back to his best on the weekend against the Hawks scoring 118pt’s. At $443 400, he could be great if you don’t have the money to trade for an elite-priced player.
Must haves’ for the finals

Gary Ablett
He’s as attainable as he’ll ever be right now at his price of $657 600.

If you have any spare money, now is the time to trade-up!

Jonathan Brown
Scored 121pt’s despite being triple teamed. His price of $565 600 is too good to go past.

Brendan Goddard
The highest averaging defender by some margin. Even though he’s priced high at $592 400, you’ll need him.

He’s been averaging 131pt’s over the past 3 weeks as well – Not too bad for a player entering the SuperCoach finals

Simon Goodwin
Valued at $507 800 and has a 3 week average of 135pt’s; If you’ve got a chance to get him in, do it.

Must get rid’

Paul Chapman
After being amazing average of 132pt’s since round 11, he’s out for two-weeks with a hamstring-strain. That’ll leave you with a $617 900 player that’s not playing for two-weeks……..

Domenic Cassisi
Can’t believe how little his heroic efforts have not been mentioned in Melbourne. Either way, he’s put his hand-up for the game against Freo; but with a depressed fracture and concussion, he may miss it. After averaging 131pt’s since round 14, it would suck if you have him now.

Nathan Bock
After being in some excellent form averaging 121pt’s over the past 4-weeks, he has damaged his heel in the game against Geelong and as such, will either be out’ for this week’s clash against Collingwood, or be playing injured.

Previous players revisited
Jobe Watson has his best game for a while against West Coast with a score of 99pt’s. Now the baby steps are out of the way, maybe he can score big from here onwards……
Even though Lance Franklin kicked 2.7, he’s still getting his hands on the ball so his price of $473 000 is still a good one.
Jason Porplyzia has been really poor pretty-much since Brett Burton has been back. He still has the potential to do well as we have all seen before so I wouldn’t lose hope yet.
