Adelaide Best and Fairest 2010 – Malcolm Blight Medal
Sunday, September 5th, 2010Collingwood vs. Adelaide – Round 21 Match Preview
Friday, August 20th, 2010SportsBet odds: $1.05 vs. $10.00
1st. vs. 11th
In what should be a fairly uneventful game, the in-form Collingwood take on an Adelaide Crows outfit that had an impressive victory whilst undermanned against the Lions away from home. The news early this week of Nathan Bock defecting to the new Gold Coast Suns will no doubt affect the club and chances are, it will be a galvanising one.
It’s just a shame that they are coming up against the in-form team of the competition….. (more…)

Brent’s Weekly Bite
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009This is the first instalment of my weekly top and bottom four news stories of the week. A week is a long time in football as we all know, so this will act as a recap of the major news stories in the world of Football.
THE TOP FOUR
1. AC/DC vs. AFL – This is a news story that is close to me as I have AC/DC tickets for next year at Etihad Stadium. The AFL is unhappy with the stadium for organising the sold out concerts when the NAB cup is also scheduled to use the stadium. Both the AFL and AC/DC promoters are standing firm with their deals with the stadium. The AFL insists this “This venue is one of many venues that can hold AC/DC [but] it’s the only one that can hold AFL competition …” AFL Chief Operating Office Gillon McLachlan. This sure to be an interesting issue, will the AFL really take on the biggest rock band in the world? My idea would involve taking the NAB to the people, country towns who don’t always get to see the elite footballers. This is an excellent chance for the AFL to promote the game.
2. JADE RAWLINGS – Finally some good news at the Richmond football club. Jade Rawlings has notched up his first win as an AFL coach. His intentions as care taker coach are clear; blood the youth and from Saturday nights game it could well be an exciting time at Richmond. I like Richmond playing the youth as this I when they seem to play their best football. If Rawlings can have continued success this year, will he be considered for the top job at Tigerland?
3. KEVIN SHEEDY – On the topic of Richmond and all things coaching Kevin Sheedy has rejected a position on the Richmond coaching sub-committee. In a move that sends a clear message Sheedy will be looking to secure another head coaching role in the AFL. His credentials cannot be argued; four premierships at Essendon over a 629 game period. Only question that remains is will the clubs look to someone younger? Or go with experience?
4. NICK NAITANUI – Naitanui has made a successful debut for the West Coast Eagles against Richmond. The second pick in last years national draft the Fijian showed just what potential he has. Naitanui wore guernsey number 9 made famous by opponent Ben Cousins (who had a return to form). His jump is something that will have the football world talking, I cannot think of an opposition ruckman who will be able to rival his jump. Very, very exciting prospect for the Eagles.
THE BOTTOM FOUR
1. HAWTHORN – Its official; last year’s premier is in the midst of a premiership hangover. The Hawks currently sit at 8th on the ladder after another defeat on the weekend. The Hawks are now in serious threat of missing the finals in 2009. Hawthorn has six wins and six losses with a percentage of only 94 putting them in serious danger after the break. Injuries as an excuse no longer is washing with the public, and the fans will want to see results soon. Can the Hawks recover some of last years form?
2. SHINBONER SPIRIT?? – The North Melbourne football club is in the beginning stages of a crisis. Only having won 4 games in season 2009 the Roos are looking like a club on the slide. The Kangaroos have the second worst percentage in the league with 76%, the issues I suspect run a lot deeper at North as seen by the events of today with Dean Laidley. The much talked about shinboner spirit seems to be wavering as the Roos failed to fire a shot in club legend Adam Simpson’s 300th game.
3. CHRIS JUDD’S NOSE – Arguably the most talked about nose in Australia after Friday night. Judd suffered a broken nose during the third quarter in a head clash with team mate Mark Austin. Judd played on in amazing circumstances with all kinds of measures being taken to try and stem the flow of blood. Judd was in obvious pain but showed his true character in this inspirational performance.
4. SWINE FLU – The flu has almost infiltrated the ranks of the AFL with Adelaide footballer Richard Douglas being tested for the disease. Both Douglas and his house mate Tony Armstrong was also tested for the disease. They were cleared of having the flu but Douglas who was named in the team was omitted while Armstrong was taken from the emergency list. My opinion here is that paranoia has set in since the World Health Organisation declared a pandemic. Please can everyone just breathe.
