In comparison to some other weeks, this week’s score was a little disappointing. Still, it is more than anybody actually scored so we can’t really complain that much. For the second week running Dane Swan (152) is captain as he continues his fine form. (more…)

2nd vs. 1st
It is finally upon us the Grand Final rematch, this game last year was huge in the season and produced a classic as did the Grand Final will this match be able to continue this great rivalry? The AFL has got it right this season by playing this match at the MCG.

Brisbane vs. Geelong – Round 8 Match Review
Saturday, May 15th, 2010Brisbane – 10.14 (74)
Geelong –24.11 (155)
Geelong has dismantled Brisbane at the Gabba by an eventual margin of 81 points. It was the Cats from start to finish and really Brisbane never really looked in the contest. As is often the case every time Brisbane looked to be getting a run on the Cats would fire back. (more…)
Geelong vs. Sydney – Round 7 Match Preview
Thursday, May 6th, 2010SportsBet Odds: $1.29 vs. $3.75
5th vs. 1st
Ladder leaders Sydney make the trip down to Skilled Stadium to face the Cats. Sydney has been very impressive in season 2010 and will be looking to claim a big scalp this weekend.
The Cats welcome back some big names this week with Ablett and Scarlett both returning to the team, while brad Ottens will miss due to a foot injury.
The odds for this game seem a little bit outrageous considering the way Sydney are generally close to teams when they do not actually win. This is also the first time big Shane Mumford returns to Skilled Stadium since he left the club last season. (more…)
Geelong vs. Richmond – Round 6 Match Review
Sunday, May 2nd, 2010Geelong – 24.17 (161)
Richmond – 7.11 (53)
Geelong was never challenged by a Richmond side that looked out of its depth at Skilled Stadium. The Tigers were on the back foot from the first bounce and went into the first change goalless and trailing by 42 points. From that point on it was all Geelong with Richmond having few winners on the ground. The Cats extended the margin at every change and finished the match 108 points ahead. Richmond was not helped by the exclusions of Tambling, Cotchin and Martin and was exposed in every area of the ground. The Cats went in without Corey, Ablett and Scarlett but gained good returns from Duncan, Hogan and also the returning Travis Varcoe. (more…)
Geelong vs Port Adelaide – Round 4 Match Review
Sunday, April 18th, 2010Geelong–23.21 (159)
Port Adelaide – 10.4 (64)
Geelong has defeated Port Adelaide in emphatic at Skilled Stadium in front on 25,579 fans. The game was close for two quarters with Port Adelaide only trailing by 10 points at the main break. However a 73 points to 6 third quarter put the Cats out of reach with the game being over by the final change. The damage could have been far worse for the power with Geelong’s inaccuracy in the final term the only thing that saved a 100 point defeat. (more…)
Geelong vs. Essendon – Round 1 Match Preview
Thursday, March 25th, 2010SportsBet odds: $1.23 vs. $4.25
The reigning premiers haven’t exactly had the pre season form they would have liked. The Cats managed just one win, against Fremantle, and had their last match cancelled due to the freak Melbourne storm that ravaged the city. The Bombers on the other hand had a shaky start against West Coast and lost to Sydney after resting many key players, but managed convincing wins against Melbourne and Richmond. This will be an excellent test to see how far the Bombers have progressed with their fast paced game style. Geelong are one of the best in that business and if the Bombers can take it to the Cats this promises to be a cracker of a match. Essendon have been experimenting with different forward structures to fill the void left by the departure of Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas, and their midfield has been kicking more goals, but if either of those areas fail on the night things could go into disarray. Top 5 Small Forwards
Thursday, February 18th, 2010Fans always have, and always will debate who the best players in the league are. With that in mind it’s time to get people talking about the top 5 Small Forwards heading into 2010.
1. Paul Chapman
The Norm Smith Medalist in last season’s grand final gets the number one spot. Chapman is as versatile as they come, getting a run through the middle on many occasions while being damaging on the scoreboard.
Chapman ended 2009 with 37 goals 17 behinds from his 20 games including 19 goal assists. The thing with Chapman is he is often used up around the centre half forward line and puts the ball into the 50 meter arc as indicated by his 107 inside 50s.
2. Mark LeCras
LeCras could have easily taken number one spot due to his tally of goals for the 2009 season. Finished the season with an impressive 58 goals 26 behinds, which is an excellent return.
44 inside 50s, 14 goal assists and 48 tackles all put him in the elite when talking of small forwards. Could have easily slotted into the All Australian team and was extremely unlucky not to be in the 22.
3. Steve Johnson
Johnson started 2009 with a bang. Injury during the season meant he only played 18 games but still managed 40 goals and 38 behinds for the year. Johnson is probably the most dangerous player in the list because of his freakish ability to get the ball and do the seemingly impossible.
While he can at time be a frustrating player to watch he deserves his place in this list. His stats again speak for themselves 86 inside 50s, 19 goals assists and 44 tackles. On his day is one of the hardest men in football to stop.
4. Jason Porplyzia
Porplyzia is a very exciting prospect for the Adelaide Crows as seen by his stellar 2009 season. 57 goals and 20 behinds for the year meant his ability to impact to scoreboard was immense.
Not only that but he was able to lay 88 tackles, have 60 inside 50s and have 15 goal assists. A very important player for the Crows and one to watch in season 2010.
5. Jason Akermanis
Despite Akermanis being at the back end of his career he continues to be an influential player for the Dogs. ‘Aker’ finished 2009 with a total of 43 goals and 35 behinds which isn’t bad for a player of his age.
Akermanis gets the nod over a Milne because of a couple of things, his overall stats indicate more influence around the ground i.e 96 inside 50s, 23 goal assists and 86 tackles, his ability to move into the midfield and have a real impact and finally he is a proven player under pressure. He is undeniably still one of the best small forwards going around, even though it pains me to admit it.
