Port Adelaide vs. Adelaide – Round 17 Match Review

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Port Adelaide – 13.10 (88)
Adelaide – 9.15 (69)

For all but Port Adelaide supporters this was a rather lackluster derby until the final quarter when Adelaide decided to kick into gear and give the Power a scare. The damage however was already done as Port Adelaide recorded a rather comfortable 19 point victory. (more…)

Adelaide vs. Geelong – Round 16 Match Review

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Adelaide– 11.8 (74)
Geelong – 9.9 (63)

In a very scrappy encounter at AAMI stadium Adelaide has upset Geelong by 11 points and in doing so has kept their 2010 finals campaign alive. Adelaide won the contested ball and was able to use it more effectively going into the forward 50. Geelong looked good in the first quarter but Adelaide always looked in the contest. (more…)

Hawthorn vs. Adelaide – Round 12 Match Preview

SportsBet Odds: $1.38 vs. $3.07

8th vs. 15th

I know it is hard to believe but on current form, Hawthorn alongside Geelong is one of the ‘in-form’ teams of the competition as they have both won their last 4 matches.

Hawthorn played Port Adelaide last week, and although they had a tight last quarter managed to get over the line, this week they play the other South Australian team; Adelaide. The Crows came off an upset win last week and pretty much ran all over Fremantle. (more…)

Adelaide vs. Brisbane – Round 9 Match Review

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Adelaide – 13.15 (93)
Brisbane 11.15 (81)

Whilst Adelaide has put a tumultuous week behind them with their second win for the season, Brisbane’s season seems to be sliding into obscurity with their 5th loss in a row.

Adelaide had control of the game for the majority of the game, but Brisbane never let the game slip out of grasp. This was largely thanks to a handful of Lions players who somehow managed to keep the game close for much of the time. (more…)

Adelaide vs. Brisbane – Round 9 Match Preview

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

SportsBet odds: $2.22 vs. $1.66

15th vs. 9th

Preseason, this game would have been a highly anticipated clash, but thanks to the wonderful thing that is injuries; both teams are struggling, and struggling badly.

Adelaide’s in particular has an astonishing 15 players, unavailable for selection although 3 players are suspended for staying out “beyond a reasonable hour” over the weekend. To make matters worst Bernie Vince, the winner of the Best & Fairest last year is one of those players.

Brisbane’s injury troubles are compounding their poor performances by the fact that they include Brown and Fevola; the team’s main two weapons. Both are listed to play and have been at Adelaide to see a groin specialist to see if they can get over the injury.

The Lions got smashed by Brisbane, being made to look second-rate, whilst Adelaide were terrible for 3 quarters against North Melbourne to then ‘wake up’ and nearly undeservedly snatch victory.
Basically, both teams were shocking last week.
With both teams losing 3 out of their last games, it’s not being to be pretty. (more…)

North Melbourne vs. Adelaide – Round 8 Match Review

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

North Melbourne – 12.12 (84)
Adelaide – 11.9 (75)

North Melbourne has survived a comeback from a fast finishing Adelaide side to win by just 9 points. The Kangaroos lead by a massive 54 points at the three quarter time break, but Adelaide closed out the match with a 7.4. to just one behind in the last quarter to bring the margin back to a respectable 9 points. It is the second time in as many weeks that the Crows have finished quickly, having demolished Richmond last week by kicking a similar score in the final quarter. (more…)

Fremantle vs Adelaide – Round 1 Match Review

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Fremantle – 17.16 (118)

Adelaide – 9.8 (62)

It was a close first quarter in the west with each team managing just two goals each. The game had a slow start but come the second quarter Fremantle stunned the visitors by kicking 7 goals to two. They headed into the main break with a 6 goal lead. Adelaide fought back in the third quarter, but only to let the Dockers back in and stretch the lead again. Fremantle got off to the best start for the season they could have asked for, smashing a team that many tipped for the top four this year by 56 points. (more…)

Adelaide vs. Hawthorn – Round 10 match recap

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

Adelaide – 16.10 (106)
Hawthorn –12.7 (76)

Another dominant first-half display for the second week in a row set up an important victory for the Crows against a skill-less Hawks outfit who are clearly struggling to make there mark on the season so far.

Turning points of the match
Adelaide kicked 7 goals to the Hawks 2 in the first quarter and then kept it going for the second quarter with a 5 goal to 2 one to finish the first-half with a 48pt lead.
The Hawks had a good 3rd quarter kicking 4 goals to nothing to give themselves a chance and they had their chances until Richard Douglas sealed the game late in the 4th quarter to completely kill the Hawks off.

Key Players for the Adelaide
Taylor Walker – His 5 first-half goals to help set-up the match were pretty darn’ handy.
Scott Thompson – His best game of the year by a country-mile finishing with 38 disposals, 7 tackles, 7 inside-50’s and 6 clearances.
Nathan Bock – Whilst he gave up 7 scoring shots on Franklin, he only conceded 1 goal thanks to excellent pressure on him. His customary link-play in the back half was a big reason why the Crows won as well.

Key Players for Hawthorn
Cyril Rioli – Another excellent game from Rioli with 22 possessions and 4 goals to clearly be the best Hawk on the ground. No second year blues from this guy.
Brad Sewell – Like Rioli, again he is amongst the Hawk’s best this week with his usual grunt work around the pack with 10 tackles and 8 inside-50’s to go with it.
Lance Franklin – Struggled to make an impact on the game up forward despite numerous chances so they tried him in the midfield to little effect on the outcome of the game.
Sam Mitchell – His inconsistent year has continued with an ineffective performance after being beaten by Doughty for the day. He had 22 possessions but not very damaging.

Musings from the match
• Hawthorns kicking in the back half was deplorable, resulting in a heap of goals for the Crows.
• There were also a few soft plays’ by a Birchall and Campbell that would have infuriated Clarkson.
Chris Knights goal-kicking form continues with another 4 goals this week after kicking 5 the week before.
Ben Ruttens game on Jarryd Roughead was also noteworthy restricting the forward to 1 goal.
Xavier Ellis had a pretty good first game back from injury with 29 possessions. He turned it over a bit but at least he was trying to make plays’ for the Hawks.
• The game leaves both teams at 5-5 along with 5 others……

SuperCoach news
Taylor Walker was a bee’s d*ck away from getting traded from my team but instead, I put him on my bench. Damn, Damn, Damn. From his 5 goals he scored 92pt’s.
Beau Muston had another good game and, in a word; BUY! He scored 95pt’s from 26 possessions this week in a poor team.
• Even though it was Scott Thompsons best game for the year, he only managed 109pt’s thanks to 5 clangers which restricted his score.

Adelaide Crows Def By Western Bulldogs- Round 7 Recap

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Adelaide Crows – 12.14 (86)
Western Bulldogs – 17.16 (118)

The Bulldogs have gone some way to re-establishing themselves as the third best team in the competition this year, doing so with a convincing win away from home against the Adelaide Crows. Perhaps the most pleasing thing about the Bulldogs six goal victory was that they looked good going both ways; that is when they had the ball they used it well and when they didn’t they worked hard enough to impact the Crows efficiency the other way, usually resulting in the Dogs getting the ball again.

Turning points of the match
Akermanis kicked two very nice goals before half time, stealing valuable momentum and establishing a nice base for the Bulldogs to launch from. From there the Dogs ground out a solid win and for mine the result never looked in doubt.

Key Players for Adelaide
Taylor Walker – Awesome start, gradually had lest impact but still finished the game with an impressive 4 goals (3 behinds) and got his hands to the pill 18 times.

Scott Thompson – Again started really well with 16 of his 34 touches coming in the first quarter, a severely underrated player.

Key Players for the Western Bulldogs
Robert Murphy – The Bulldogs look much more dangerous with Murphy in the team. He finished with a great contribution of 4 goals and 18 possessions.

Adam Cooney – Time off has done him wonders- stood up whenever needed. His stats showed 29 touches and a goal.

Jason Akermanis – Only had 17 touches but that is enough to cut you up. 3 of those touches were goals off his own boot.

Musings from the match
• The Bulldogs needed to step up this week and they did so, had they of lost 4 on the trot we’d be looking at them in a very different light.
• Could it be that St Kilda teaching teams how to play football? Every team St Kilda has beaten this year has come out with a much improved performance the next week.
• Simon Goodwin left the field with an ankle injury.
• The Bulldogs out tackled their opponents 67-51.
• Shaun Higgins late withdrawal has a lot of people tearing their hair out, not the Bulldogs though, other players stood up in the forward line.
• I was wrong about ‘Aker’- he still has a lot to contribute.

Supercoach news
Adam Cooney- I was hoping for another bad week and to pick him up in a couple, may have to rush him in now, he had a solid score of 126.

Shaun Higgins- As mentioned above his withdrawal ruined a lot of our forward lines. Let’s hope he can get up this week.

Jared Petrenko- Is struggling, I’m going to stick with him though. Unless he gets dropped for a few weeks in a row.
